Meet the athlete
I am Delphine Beirinckx, living in Hulshout with my Mama, Papa and my 3 brothers. At the age of almost 5 years I started BMX because my 2 older brothers already did this. It soon became clear that this was the sport for me. What used to be just a few laps on the track quickly grew into driven bicycles in competitions. For example, from the age of 7 I participated in international competitions, European Championships and World Cups. My first World Cup took place in Baku in Aerbeidzjan and I immediately became 6th in the world with the 7 and 8 year old girls. Early season 2021 when I was 10 years old I decided together with my parents and trainer to start in Belgium in the boys category of my age. This is to further develop me as a BMX member. In these competitions the field of participants is much larger and I have to fight harder for my place. But to my surprise I manage to almost always reach the final with the best 8 in these matches. In 2022 I came into contact with Marc Hermans. Marc invited me to the rehabilitation meadow and told me about Athletes for Hope Team Belgium and their operation. There I also came into contact with children with paralysis and also with children with disabilities. I immediately knew I want to be part of this, contribute to this project by doing what I prefer to do. It gives extra satisfaction and motivation to develop further in my sport.
